Oscar Bobb could be on his way out of Manchester City in the upcoming January transfer window, according to a new report.
The 22-year-old Norwegian has long been viewed as one of the club’s most technically gifted wide players, but his pathway to sustained first-team minutes has been repeatedly disrupted over the last 18 months.
Competition for attacking roles under Pep Guardiola remains intense, particularly after a busy summer transfer window with Manchester City continuing to invest heavily in proven and emerging talent across the front line.
Bobb’s situation has also been shaped by misfortune rather than form, having suffered a leg bone fracture in the opening week of the 2024/25 Premier League season, bringing a premature end to what had been an outstanding pre-season tour of the United States.
That injury sidelined him for the vast majority of the previous campaign and halted momentum that had placed him firmly in Pep Guardiola’s immediate plans. Although, despite that setback, City’s long-term view of Bobb has not diminished.
But with minutes so far limited this season, according to the information of journalist Alan Nixon, Crystal Palace are keen to sign Oscar Bobb amid a plan to recruit in the upcoming January transfer market.
However, and perhaps unsurprisingly given the player’s performances and talent, officials at Manchester City will reportedly want a ‘big price’, and while Palace are keen on Bobb, they are also fond of Tottenham’s Brennan Johnson – but would prefer a loan.
With Johnson said to be valued at close to £40 million by those in North London, Crystal Palace are reluctant to reach some an amount and would take Bobb if his price was lower, as per Nixon.
From Manchester City’s perspective, it remains likely that a permanent exit will only be sanctioned when their valuation on the player is met, and involving favourable clauses to remain engaged in the talent’s future should he thrive.
Crystal Palace’s interest could hinge on Manchester City’s willingness to consider a temporary move, potentially with strict usage guarantees. Should the Eagles fail to progress regarding Brennan Johnson for example, Bobb could emerge as a more realistic alternative.
