Manchester United were held to a 2-2 draw by Everton in their final game of the Premier League Summer Series. Here are our player ratings from the game.
(A score of 6 is around average)
Altay Bayindir 4 – Unconvincing. Poor parry from James Garner’s free-kick to present Everton with their best chance of the opening 45 minutes. Slow reactions to things happening around him.
Leny Yoro 8 – Outstanding! Just one shaky moment which saw him had a bit of a mix-up with Amad but he barely put a foot wrong since then. Exceptional last-man challenge to deny Beto what seemed like a certain goal. Some superb passing and playing out from the back.
Matthijs de Ligt 6 – Led the three-man defence well and made some good defensive contributions. Hopefully his injury is not too serious.
Luke Shaw 6 – Did OK as the left-centre-back, pressing high when needed.
Amad 7.5 – Won the penalty from which United took the lead and created a very good chance for Cunha. United’s most dangerous penalty and caused Everton a lot of havoc down the right.
Manuel Ugarte 2 – Shambolic. Easily dispossessed for Everton’s goal, which made it 1-1. Several poor touches and passes, which the Toffees were all too happy to capitalise on. Just not up to the level.
Kobbie Mainoo 6 – Assumed some good positions and made a few line-breaking passes. Aggressively contested his duels.
Diogo Dalot 5 – Largely uninvolved and struggled to make an impact in the wing-back role, offering little throughout the game.
Matheus Cunha 6 – Early chance to break the deadlock but he couldn’t guide the ball into the back of the net. Combined well with Fernandes and Amad but slowly faded in the second half.
Bruno Fernandes 7.5 – Involved in most of United’s attacking moves. Made no mistake from the penalty spot and also assisted Mount’s beautiful goal. Didn’t cover himself in glory for Everton’s second of the game, losing the ball and then getting involved in a scrap with Iliman Ndiaye.
Bryan Mbeumo 7 – Promising performance on his first United appearance. Some brilliant first-time passes that sparked dangerous United attacks. Energetic, worked hard and came close to scoring with two shots but couldn’t quite hit the target.
Patrick Dorgu 6 – Got forward a lot more and looked to get involved in United’s attacking play. Had a crack at goal when he was slipped through but Jordan Pickford got a hand to his effort.
Ayden Heaven 4 – Shocking defending for Everton’s second goal. Recklessly gave the ball away moments later but was bailed out by Maguire.
Mason Mount 8 – Excellent turn and strike for the goal to temporarily restore United’s lead.
Harry Maguire 6.5 – Picked up where Shaw left off. Strong tackle to keep Thiemo Barry from breaking through on goal.
Rasmus Hojlund 5 – No impact whatsoever from the bench.
Casemiro 5 – Same as Hojlund.
Tyler Fredricson 5 – On the pitch for a very limited period
