In a recent post on X, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that Manchester United is close to completing a loan move to Turkey. It has been stated that the Cameroonian keeper is inching closer to joining Trabzonspor on loan from the Red Devils this month.
Onana struggled to find consistency with his performances in between the sticks for the Mancunian club in the previous campaign. The Cameroonian talent was involved in 50 matches for Man United last season, shipping in 65 goals and earning 11 clean sheets in the process across multiple competitions.
The 29-year-old is prone to making costly errors at the back which has put his long-term future at Old Trafford in doubt. Thus, it makes sense for Man United to let him go this month.
His current contract at the Premier League club will run out in the summer of 2028. Therefore, the Red Devils are under no pressure to sell him permanently.

Onana can use his quick reflexes to make a few top saves for his team. However, he is not a good handler of the ball and needs to improve his ball distribution from the back.
Furthermore, the Cameroon international lacks concentration which can see him make some poor errors inside his half. Thus, it makes sense for Man United to let him leave on a loan deal this month.
Onana needs a change of scenery to get his career back on track. Plus, a good loan spell in Turkey could make his value go up in the transfer market.
At 29, Onana is still playing in his prime. Thus, it is important for him to earn regular first-team starts away from Old Trafford. The Cameroonian talent is not a first-team starter at the Mancunian club after falling behind Altay Bayindir and now, Senne Lammens in Ruben Amorim’s pecking order. Hence, it will be a good move for both the player and Man United for him to go out on loan to Trabzonspor before the end of the Turkish transfer period.
