Manchester United have been handed a major boost before facing Leeds United, as Patrick Dorgu has moved to the next stage of his rehabilitation after a long absence.
The club said in a statement that Dorgu has progressed to individual sessions on the pitches at Carrington as the next phase of his recovery, with no timeline for a first-team return, and that the current aim is for him to be back with the squad before the end of the season. The update also referenced his strength and conditioning programme and a planned training camp in Dublin next week in preparation for the run-in to secure UEFA Champions League football next season.
The 21-year-old Denmark international had been in fine form, scoring with a shot off the underside of the bar to make it 2-1 in the 50th minute of January’s 3-2 win at Arsenal.
He then suffered a hamstring injury in that game and was forced off with nine minutes remaining.
His breakthrough month also included a Boxing Day Goal of the Month against Newcastle United, and he provided one of United’s two goals against Manchester City.
After today’s FA Cup quarter-final at West Ham, Leeds visit Old Trafford next Monday night as their Premier League survival bid resumes.
