In a recent segment on Youtube, respected journalist Fabrizio Romano claimed that Manchester United have identified Roma midfielder Manu Kone as a target. Romano said,

“United are now targeting a defensive midfielder, with Manu Koné as one name on their shortlist – they have had positive phone contact with his agents and maintain an excellent relationship, though no formal bid or approach to Roma has been made yet.

“Reports of €80m – €90m prices are exaggerated; the player is expensive but not at that level. United are taking time to evaluate options after their recent quick signings and deciding who is the defensive midfielder they want to sign.”

Kone’s Decent Form In Italian Football

Kone enjoyed a good run of form at the Italian club as he produced a string of impressive performances at the heart of their midfield. The 25-year-old scored two times and picked up three assists in 37 matches for Roma last season in various competitions.

The France international is currently among the best central midfielders in Serie A. Hence, it is no wonder that the Red Devils are planning to sign him this summer.

His current contract with Roma will expire in 2029, which would make it difficult for Man United to sign him on the cheap this off-season.

Should Manchester United Boss Michael Carrick Get Kone On Board?

Kone is a solid tackler of the ball and can read the danger well to earn possession back for his side in the middle of the park. He usually clears his lines when required and is a good passer as well.

The French sensation can contribute by scoring and creating a few important goals for his team from midfield. Kone is primarily a box-to-box midfielder but can also serve as a defensive midfielder if asked to do so by his manager. However, there are some question marks over whether he can adapt to the physicality and high intensity of the Premier League if the Red Devils manage to snap him up this summer.

Kone would improve the quality of Man United boss Michael Carrick’s midfield. He has what it takes to fight for a regular first-team spot at Old Trafford in the coming seasons.

At 25, Kone has his best years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for Man United to pursue in the summer transfer window. All in all, Carrick should consider going all out to get him on board soon.
