Ruben Amorim still dealing with injury issues ahead of key run of games

Manchester United have won just two of their last five games, and they are also dealing with injuries and the absence of some of their most important players.

Noussair Mazraoui, Amad Diallo and Bryan Mbeumo are all away at the Africa Cup of Nations, while Bruno Fernandes, Kobbie Mainoo, Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt are injured and Mason Mount had to substituted against Newcastle on Boxing Day.

Ruben Amorim's side won that game 1-0 and do have some very favourable fixtures coming up.

They face Wolves, Leeds and then Burnley in their next three games. All of those sides are currently 16th or lower in the table.

Here’s all the latest Manchester United injury news and potential return dates...

Mason Mount

Mount sustained an injury in the first-half against Newcastle which led to him being substituted at half-time for Jack Fletcher.

It has not been confirmed what the injury is, but Amorim said after the game: "He felt something at half-time. He wanted to go (on) and that is also a good thing.

"He wanted to go to the second half but we cannot lose more players, if you are not 100 per cent."

Mount has been in good form this season and United will hope he can make a swift recovery.

Potential return date: December 30 vs Wolves (H)

Bruno Fernandes

Fernandes has been out since suffering a hamstring injury in the 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa before Christmas.

He missed the game against Newcastle, which is only the third game he has missed through injury since moving to Old Trafford.

He is expected to be out for a few weeks and it is fortunate that United have a slightly easier set of fixtures whilst he will be missing.

Amorim said last week: “They are recovering (Fernandes and Mainoo). I don't think that it is going to take a lot of time. Kobbie is going to return faster than Bruno. I don't want to say (how long for Bruno). I have an idea, of course, but let's see.

"It is impossible to replace Bruno but I said that this morning to the team."

Potential return date: January 2026

Kobbie Mainoo

Mainoo sustained a calf injury during a training session and missed the games against Aston Villa and Newcastle.

It was a badly timed injury for the youngster, who would have been in line for some much-needed game time as Casemiro was serving a suspension against Villa.

Mainoo is yet to start a Premier League game and has been linked with a January move away.

Amorim has said Mainoo will be back quicker than Fernandes.

"I don't think that it is going to take a lot of time. Kobbie is going to return faster than Bruno."

Potential return date: December 30 vs Wolves (H) or January 4 vs Leeds United (A)

Matthijs de Ligt

De Ligt has been out for a few weeks nursing a back injury, and has not played since November 30 when he completed 90 minutes in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace.

Prior to his injury, De Ligt had played every minute of Premier League football and had not missed a game all season.

He was a key part of Amorim's defence and since his absence, Ayden Heaven has come into the team and been solid.

Earlier this month Amorim said on the return De Ligt: "I don't know, sometimes you have an idea, then you have to see day by day. I'm not going to say when he is coming back."

Potential return date: December 30 vs Wolves (H) or January 4 vs Leeds United (A)

Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has been dealing with a thigh injury since the start of November, when United drew 2-2 with Tottenham

Maguire was not as key for Amorim as De Ligt. But he was still getting a lot of minutes through rotation and Amorim has not been able to lighten the loads of Lenny Yoro, Heaven and Luke Shaw much since both Maguire and de Ligt have been out.

The fact that Lisandro Martinez is now back to full fitness and made his first start since February in the Newcastle game is a massive positive for Amorim. United should soon have most of their centre-backs back and ready to play.

On Maguire's return, Amorim said last week: "We are still working with them (Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt), they are not available for this one (Newcastle), but let's see for the next one (Wolves)."

Potential return date: December 30 vs Wolves (H) or January 4 vs Leeds United (A)
