Manchester United: Michael Carrick wants to stay for the long term
Michael Carrick, currently serving as Manchester United's interim manager, remains open to the possibility of staying with the club beyond the end of his contract, which is set to expire in June.
After arriving following the dismissal of Rúben Amorim, the 44-year-old Brit is first and foremost focused on improving the team and the atmosphere within the squad. Speaking at a press conference, Carrick laid out his vision and his role:
I think we're realistic about our current situation, about why I'm here, and about my role. That doesn't change our daily work or the attention we pay to the club's long-term strategy.
My main goal is not just to go week by week, match by match, but to plan for improvement beyond this season. All I can control is what we give to the players and how we create the right atmosphere around the group. That's our priority. We'll see what happens after that.
Carrick also spoke about his commitment and the satisfaction he finds in the job:
I'm here because I love this role and I wanted to do it. I feel extremely privileged to be in this position. That doesn't change, no matter how long the contract is.
Finally, the former midfielder wrapped up with his experience and ambition:
I'm here to give my best. I have a lot of experience in knowing what's needed and where to take things, and I'll try to bring all of that to help the team.
