According to Superdeporte, Marcelino García Toral is in talks to become Al Ahli head coach, with an agreement that could be confirmed in the coming days.

The Spaniard has been out of work since leaving Villarreal in May. Taking the role would reopen his dugout career after several months away.

Al Ahli are seeking a leader for a project that aims to cement the club among the Saudi Pro League’s leading forces. Marcelino’s experience building competitive sides across Europe makes him a strong candidate.

His CV includes Valencia, Villarreal, Athletic Club, Sevilla, Zaragoza, Racing Santander, Recreativo Huelva and Sporting Gijón. He won the Copa del Rey with Valencia in 2019 and regularly guided teams into Europe with a clear, robust style.

If appointed, it would be his second job outside Spain. His first, at Olympique de Marseille, ended sooner than planned amid the club’s institutional turbulence.

Saudi Arabia offers a growing league with major financial muscle, increasingly attractive to elite coaches and players. The move would hand the Asturian a fresh challenge and a shot at domestic honours.
