Marcelo Paz expects Memphis Depay’s future at Corinthians to be settled by Monday, stressing that any agreement must fit the club’s finances.

"Corinthians want him to stay and Memphis wants to stay. We are acting with financial responsibility. If he stays it will be a new contract, very different from the previous one, within what the club can afford. I believe it could be resolved by Sunday or Monday, and that means either yes or no," he told SporTV at Neo Química Arena on Thursday.

Depay’s deal runs to 31 July and he has sent a counterproposal. The main hurdle is a three-year term, and one option under discussion would fold in just over R$ 40 million owed to him in bonuses.

"I do not want to put a percentage on it. We will be firm in our convictions and work with financial responsibility. If he stays, we gain technically, but within Corinthians’ reality."

Corinthians expect the forward to report back to CT Joaquim Grava between Saturday and Monday after 25 days off following the Netherlands’ World Cup exit. Sponsor Ezze Seguros is involved in the talks.

The club are also addressing four active transfer bans, three from FIFA and one from the CNRD, totalling over R$ 23 million. The cases include sums due to Midtjylland of Denmark for Charles and Philadelphia Union of the United States for José Martínez, plus delayed FIFA fines and a CNRD instalment. Talks to re-sign Wesley from Al-Nassr stalled under the ban, and the move is not active for now.

Later on Thursday, Corinthians beat Remo 3-0 in the 19th round of the Brasileirão.
