Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea team were pretty poor in the first half tonight, but eventually got into gear and scored twice.

As we’ve seen so many times though, they then sat too deep and ended up conceding a goal which could prove very important given it’s a two legged tie. The coach admitted he was disappointed with what had happened:

“[We] were a bit sloppy. We could avoid that. It’s football, it can happen. Now, 90 minutes is finished – we are happy, we won. We have 90 more minutes against them next week but now the most important thing for us, the main game for us is Sunday’s game.”

“[The next leg] is at home; we need our fans for 90 minutes, 100 minutes, behind the team and pushing the team because every game is important from now on. Against Leicester on Sunday, I think we can take one more step for our target to finish in the top four or top five, I don’t know. It’s important, we need to be together to win on Sunday.”

With plenty of players still out, a major part of earning a win this weekend will be getting Malo Gusto back, and there was good news on that front. Maresca had a positive update on the defender to share:

“He’s okay, he’s better. They just told me he can be ready for Sunday’s game, so hopefully we can have him for Sunday’s game.”

The full back appeared to hurt his ankle in the first half and initially played on before jarring it further blocking a cross and going off. The good news is that it sounds like it was very much precautionary, and we should expect him to be available for this weekend, with him and goalscorer Reece James likely to share some minutes at right back.
