Nayef Aguerd (29) has been playing through the pain for much of the season with Olympique de Marseille, however, RMC Sport now understands that the Morocco international will undergo adductor surgery, with the objective of returning before the end of the season.
Aguerd has been suffering with a pubalgia issue for much of the season, and as reported by Foot Mercato, it is the player himself who wanted to undergo surgery in order to fix the issue. It was his desire to play in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that prevented him from undergoing surgery sooner. Prior to the tournament, Marseille had to manage the defender’s minutes.
However, the issue has become too recurrent, too considerable, RMC Sport understands. It is preventing him from playing at his top level and so the decision has been taken to operate. Aguerd will undergo surgery soon as he looks to make a swift return, before the end of the Ligue 1 campaign in mid-May.
