Matheuzinho: enjoying peak form, focused on Corinthians, eyes call-up

With almost two years at the club, Matheuzinho is experiencing his best moment as a right-back for Corinthians. Both offensively and defensively, he plays an important role among the starters in Dorival Júnior's coaching staff, who are aiming to climb in the Brasileirão and win the Copa do Brasil.

“I am very happy with my moment. I am living my peak in football and in my personal life. I worked with him (Dorival, at Flamengo) and he knows my football. It's very good when the coach helps you find your best phase,” the defender began in an interview with UOL.

Another player in good form is Hugo Souza, who has been called up by the Brazilian National Team, one of Matheuzinho's career dreams. The right-back revealed that he talks about this with the goalkeeper after the opportunities received.

“The call-up is something beyond my control. What I can do, I do at the club. It's about maintaining the level and consistency. If I have the opportunity to reach the national team and play in a World Cup, it will be a childhood dream come true“

“We talk about what goes on behind the scenes and the training sessions. These conversations further fuel my dream of being there and experiencing it. I'm on the right path and hope it happens. We always have these little chats for him to help. At the right moment, the call will come,” said the number 2.

The right-back has a contract with Timão until the end of 2028, when he will be 28 years old. With the positive moment at the club and the possibility of winning another title, Matheuzinho makes it clear that he dreams of playing in Europe.

I have the dream of playing abroad. That's where the biggest teams in the world and the best players are. I think about it and want to get there. I am 100% focused on Corinthians today, I have a huge commitment and, as long as I have a contract with Corinthians, I will be focused here, he commented.

He will be a significant absence for Corinthians in the next match. Suspended for receiving the third yellow card, Matheuzinho will not play against Vitória, leaving Dorival Júnior to rack his brains to find a substitute. The match kicks off at Barradão this Saturday, starting at 4 PM (Brasília time).
