Mauricio and Jhon Arias have delivered a first in Palmeiras’ World Cup history, with two different club players scoring in the same edition. According to Nosso Palestra, this is unprecedented for the Verdão.
The landmark began with Mauricio, who scored for Paraguay in the group stage. His strike ended a 12-year wait for a World Cup goal by a Palmeiras-affiliated player, the previous being Valdivia for Chile in 2014.
Jhon Arias then added to the tally, netting in Colombia’s win over Ghana in the round of 32. The result secured Colombia’s place in the next phase.
Their goals place the 2026 World Cup in a special chapter of Palmeiras’ records.
Over the years, Jair Rosa Pinto, Mazzola, Vavá, Francisco Arce and Valdivia have scored at World Cups while on Palmeiras’ books. Mauricio joined that list in 2026, and Arias now does too.
