Manchester United stars Maya Le Tissier and Jess Park have been rewarded with spots in the England squad ahead of next month’s international duty.
Le Tissier and Park have been in inspired form for United this season, with the club currently sitting in second place in the WSL rankings, one point above Chelsea and eight adrift of table leaders Manchester City.
The skipper is once again showing herself to be United’s reliable defensive rock, producing solid performances every week.
Marc Skinner has frequently hailed her leadership, with Le Tissier proving to be a top-notch presence in defence regardless of who her partner is on the day.
Meanwhile, Park hit the ground running after joining United from City in the summer, and she hasn’t looked back since.
She has emerged as one of United’s most important creative outlets. Park has managed an impressive six goals and four assists in the 16 WSL appearances she has made this term.
She struck up a devastating understanding with Ella Toone, but even the loss of her key partner to injury has proven barely a bump in the road in her remarkable rise.
Park has collected both United’s Player of the Month awards and the league’s equivalent, and her performances appear to have caught the attention of England manager Sarina Wiegman.
Wiegman named her 25-player squad for the upcoming opening qualifiers of the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which will be held in Brazil.
The Lionesses will face Ukraine at the Mardan Sports Complex on Tuesday, 3 March, and then take on Iceland on home soil four days later.
Le Tissier was named as part of Wiegman’s defensive options. Other defenders on the squad are Lucy Bronze (Chelsea), Jess Carter (Gotham), Grace Fisk (Liverpool), Alex Greenwood (Manchester City), Lotte Wubben-Moy (Arsenal), Esme Morgan (Washington Spirit), Taylor Hinds (Arsenal), Poppy Pattinson (London City Lionesses) and Leah Williamson (Arsenal).
Park will have to ward off competition from six other forwards: Chloe Kelly (Arsenal), Lauren James (Chelsea), Aggie Beever-Jones (Chelsea), Alessia Russo (Arsenal), Lauren Hemp (Manchester City) and Freya Godfrey (London City Lionesses).
Wiegman called up midfielders Grace Clinton (Manchester City), Georgia Stanway (Bayern Munich), Keira Walsh (Chelsea), Laura Blindkilde Brown (Manchester City) and Lucia Kendell (Aston Villa).
United return to action on Thursday when they face Atletico Madrid in the return fixture of their Round of 16 Champions League tie.
