Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Friday moved to launch a stern defence of Robert Lewandowski.
This of course comes fresh off the veteran goalscorer being condemned to an incoming spell on the sidelines.
Lewandowski suffered an injury blow whilst on international duty earlier this week.
En route to a 2-0 victory for Poland over Lithuania, the 37-year-old featured from the off, and managed to find the net.
Post-match, however, it was revealed that Lewandowski had also suffered an injury setback, for which he was singled out for heavy criticism.
After being spotted looking in discomfort early on, the former Bayern Munich man was tended to and strapped up by the Polish medical team.
Lewandowski made clear that he was fit to continue, but has since been ruled out for the coming weeks with a hamstring injury.
Accused of a foolish decision in continuing to play whilst injured, he has in turn been targeted in harsh fashion by some sections of the Barcelona fanbase.
Drawn on the subject during his latest pre-match press conference on Friday, Hansi Flick therefore moved to throw his full backing behind his star striker:
“I don’t think there’s any other player who takes care of his body more than Lewandowski. He didn’t think it could be an injury. He always looks after himself; at his age, no one is in his shape except maybe Cristiano Ronaldo.”
