Maycon: Corinthians fans, league target and next match

On Sunday afternoon, the 21st, Corinthians returned to the field for the Brazilian Championship. In a match valid for the 24th round, Timão went to Ilha do Retiro to face the bottom team Sport and, after an uninspiring performance, was defeated by 1 x 0. With this, it continues with 29 points earned and, at the end of the round, will leave the first half of the national tournament's classification table.

After the match, midfielder Maycon spoke to the press in the mixed zone, where he regretted that the team lost the match in front of almost three thousand Corinthians fans present at Ilha do Retiro. "We are upset because, as always, they made a beautiful party. The Corinthians fans are beyond comment. It bothers us because we wanted to give them this affection, of a victory. Perhaps some are from here, the majority, don't see Corinthians always and unfortunately saw a defeat today. It bothers us a lot", he said.

He also spoke about what the squad expects from this Brazilian Championship: "I think our fight has to be game by game. There are games that we needed to win, we didn't manage to and this has been hindering us. I think we have to do the best possible championship, seek the best possible position. I'm not going to shy away from our responsibility. We have to always be at the top of the table and unfortunately we are not achieving this. But our focus is this."

Finally, Maycon projected the next Corinthians match, against the leader Flamengo: "Our team came in a very good upward trend, as I already said. Today's result will weigh heavily, right, in our sequence, because it was a result that we needed to leave with the three points, but we have to work within our Arena. It's been some time since we've won there in the Brazilian, it's something that bothers us a lot, and we're going to work so that God willing, we can come out with a victory on Sunday."
