Maycon makes Atlético-MG debut after contentious Corinthians exit | OneFootball

Maycon made his Atlético-MG debut as a starter in the 0-0 draw with Tombense on Sunday, playing 67 minutes as the holding midfielder before Alan Franco came on.

According to Meu Timao, the appearance followed a contentious exit from Corinthians, his contract expiring at the turn of the year. He opted to join Atlético-MG.

He posted 50 touches, 85% passing and eight losses of possession, plus two accurate long balls, one key pass and one shot, with one interception, one block and three recoveries.

The game reunited him with former Corinthians coach Cristóvão Borges, who led the club in 2016.

Maycon moved to Shakhtar Donetsk for 6.6 million euros and stayed until 2022, then returned to Corinthians on loan after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. He started well under Vítor Pereira but injuries cost him time, totalling 454 days out.

He later captained the 2025 Copa do Brasil win and was close to a 50-50 arrangement with Shakhtar until 2028, before Marcelo Paz’s arrival reduced the offer to one year. Atlético-MG matched the initial term on higher wages.

Corinthians missed a scheduled payment on one loan renewal, leaving a 1 million euro debt to Shakhtar.
