PSG and Kylian Mbappe have been involved in a long-standing judicial dispute ever since the player’s transfer to Real Madrid with both parties claiming they are entitled to a financial benefit for how the relationship ended.

While Mbappe claims damages and the non-payment of a bonus sum, PSG claim that the player intentionally ran down his contract despite there being offers, and thus inflicted a huge loss on them.

The hearings of the case have been going on for a long time now, and the latest such hearing is scheduled for today. As time has progressed, however, the demands of the parties have grown exorbitant.

The latest stance

As relayed by Le Parisien, the hearing between Mbappe and PSG at Prud’hommes later today sees both parties sue each other for staggering amounts.

Mbappe claims that PSG must pay him a sum of €240 million in damages for the damage suffered after his departure from the club and also for the bonus not paid. The latter amounts to around €55 million.

The French club, meanwhile, demands that the player shell out €180 million for the manner in which he left the club, virtually leaving PSG with no option but to lose him on a free transfer.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Co. reveal that Mbappe had an offer worth north of €300 million in July 2023 which he turned down and chose to run his contract down.

That decision, coupled with his departure for free the following summer, they claim left them staring at a huge loss that they pin on the player.

It remains to be seen in whose favour today’s decision lands, but in either case, a clarification of the situation is not expected soon with the matter only likely to progress to higher courts.
