On a lively evening at the Nuevo Carlos Tartiere, Real Madrid ran out 3-0 winners over Real Oviedo, keeping pace with Barcelona and Villarreal at the top of La Liga.
The hosts were roared on by a partisan crowd and made life difficult for long spells, but Madrid struck just before the interval. Aurélien Tchouaméni won possession and the ball found Kylian Mbappé, who controlled expertly before firing low into the corner.
The game swung decisively in the closing stages. On 82 minutes, Kwasi Sibo rattled the post for Oviedo, and within moments Mbappé had doubled Madrid’s lead, latching on to a clever pass from substitute Vinícius Jr.
Vinícius himself completed the scoring in stoppage time, underlining Madrid’s intent under Xabi Alonso and leaving Oviedo still searching for their first points since returning to the top flight.
Elsewhere, Villarreal cruised past Girona 5-0, with debutant Renato Veiga introduced at half-time. Real Sociedad, meanwhile, fought back from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Espanyol.
