Memphis Depay has been named in the Netherlands’ 26-man squad for the 2026 World Cup across Mexico, the United States and Canada, his third finals. The tournament begins on 11 June.

According to Meu Timao, the Corinthians forward has been released and will miss Grêmio. He started the 2-0 defeat to Platense before joining the national team, with the league match on 30 May.

Depay played at the 2014 and 2022 tournaments, delivering three goals and one assist in nine World Cup matches. He is the Netherlands’ record scorer with 55.

In 2014 he replaced the injured Bruno Martins Indi against Australia, assisted Robin van Persie and scored from range in a 3-2 win that sealed progress. He later struck late against Chile and featured in the knockouts.

In 2022 he arrived short of minutes after injuries, came on against Senegal and Ecuador, then started the third group game. He scored the opener in the 3-1 last-16 win over the United States, before a quarter-final exit to Argentina on penalties after 2-2.

The Netherlands will base themselves in Kansas City. Depay returned last Sunday after two months out from a 22 March injury, and Ronald Koeman has not guaranteed him a start, with Donyell Malen of Roma competing. Group F brings Japan, Sweden and Tunisia in the United States.

Before the tournament they play Algeria on 3 June in Rotterdam and Uzbekistan on 8 June in New York.
