Midfielder trains with starters, may start against Vitória in Brasileirão

Corinthians visits Vitória this Saturday afternoon, October 25, at 4pm (Brasília time), at Barradão Stadium, in a match valid for the 30th round of the Brazilian Championship. At the moment, the Alvinegro occupies 11th place with 36 points (nine wins, nine draws, and 11 losses – 31 goals scored and 35 conceded).

According to the portal Meu Timão, midfielder André Carrillo trained among the starters this Thursday and could be a new addition to the starting eleven for the match against the northeastern team. The 34-year-old player has not played since August 6, when the Alvinegro beat Palmeiras 2-0 at Allianz Parque, in the second leg of the Copa do Brasil round of 16.

On that day, the Peruvian suffered a ligament injury in his left ankle after a challenge with a Palmeiras player on the sideline and had to be substituted. The number 19 began physical transition at the beginning of October and, over the past week, started training normally with the group.

The Meu Timão report stated that, for the match, the player is expected to compete for a spot in the midfield alongside José Martínez. Carrillo, signed in the middle of last year, was instrumental in the team's surge in the last edition of the Brasileirão and was a starter in the Paulista Championship victory. Wearing the Corinthians shirt, he has three goals and five assists.

Possible change in goal

Goalkeeper Hugo Souza, diagnosed with a left shoulder injury last Wednesday, October 22 – the injury occurred in last weekend's match against Atlético at home, for the Brasileirão – is expected to be out for the match against Vitória. As a result, goalkeeper Felipe Longo, 20 years old, who recently made his debut against Santos, also in the national competition, at Vila Belmiro, should start this Saturday's game.

Right-back

With Matheuzinho serving a suspension for his third yellow card, coach Dorival Júnior has the following options for the position: Félix Torres (center-back – hasn't played since August 27), Charles (defensive midfielder) – both have played improvised in the position – and João Vitor Jacaré (18 years old), recently promoted to the first team and with a contract renewed until mid-2029, who has already played twice for the senior team – both in the Paulista Championship, the last being the 2-2 draw with Portuguesa at Pacaembu, during the group stage of the state tournament.

In 2025, João Vitor has played 11 matches (nine in the Under-20) and has yet to score or provide assists. In the Under-20 category, he competes for the position with Gabriel Caipira (born in 2005), who is in his last year in the youth ranks and recently renewed his contract for another year.

Absences and probable lineup

It is worth noting that coach Dorival Júnior is expected to have five absences for the match: goalkeeper Hugo Souza (shoulder injury), right-back Matheuzinho and midfielder Maycon, both suspended, midfielder André (ligament injury in the right ankle), and midfielder Vitinho (recovering from surgery on his right knee).

According to ge.globo, Corinthians should start the match against Vitória as follows: Felipe Longo (Hugo Souza); Félix Torres (Charles, Hugo or Jacaré), André Ramalho, Gustavo Henrique and Matheus Bidu; Raniele, José Martínez, Breno Bidon and Rodrigo Garro; Memphis Depay and Yuri Alberto.
