Mika Biereth was regarded as one of the most promising players in Arsenal’s youth system, yet he was never able to secure a breakthrough into the senior side. The forward, who initially joined from Fulham in 2022, spent much of his early Arsenal career on loan to various clubs, where he gained valuable experience and developed his game further. It was during his time at Sturm Graz in Austria that he truly flourished, delivering impressive performances that caught wider attention.

The Austrian club were determined to keep him in their squad and succeeded in negotiating a permanent deal with Arsenal in 2024. However, Biereth’s trajectory did not stop there. His strong form at Sturm Graz eventually led to a transfer to Monaco, where he continues his progression in Ligue 1. At his new club, he now finds himself alongside fellow former Arsenal academy striker Folarin Balogun, both seeking to make their mark in French football.

The Missed Opportunity at Arsenal

Although Biereth’s Arsenal career never fully materialised, he did receive recognition from the club, with at least one inclusion on the first team bench. Reflecting on recent developments, the striker believes circumstances might have created an opening for him had he remained in North London. With Kai Havertz currently sidelined, Biereth suggested he could have been a solution for the Gunners’ attacking options.

Speaking to Tipsbladet, he explained, “I know that Kai Havertz was injured, and if I had still been there, I could have played for Arsenal. But that’s not how it works properly, and I’m very happy to be in Monaco and score some goals there. For me, the Premier League is not the most important thing.”

Biereth’s New Chapter in France

His words reveal both ambition and perspective. While he acknowledges that his path at Arsenal might have taken a different turn, he expresses satisfaction with his current chapter in France. Monaco provides him with the chance to feature more prominently and to test himself in one of Europe’s strongest leagues.

For Arsenal, Biereth was a talented prospect who departed before reaching his potential within the club. Although his journey took him abroad, he continues to demonstrate the qualities that once made him a highly regarded academy product. His progress in Ligue 1 may serve as a reminder of what could have been, while at the same time reinforcing that career decisions in football are shaped by timing, opportunity, and circumstance.
