Mohamed Salah has been ruled out of Liverpool’s trip to Brighton on Saturday at 13:30 due to muscle problems, and he will miss Egypt’s international window. Arne Slot said the timing suits Liverpool and he thinks the forward could return after the break, noting his past quick recoveries and hoping for a two-week turnaround.

On Wednesday the Egyptian scored in a 4-0 win over Galatasaray, taking him beyond 50 Champions League goals. He has four goals and four assists in his last nine Liverpool appearances.

With Egypt, Salah had been due to play friendlies against Saudi Arabia on 27 March in Jeddah and Spain on 30 March in Barcelona.

After the break Liverpool face Manchester City on 4 April, then the Champions League quarter-final first leg against PSG on 8 April.

The 33-year-old’s absence comes as Liverpool navigate a pivotal fortnight that bridges club and international commitments.
