Aston Villa completed a transfer deadline day deal for Liverpool attacker Harvey Elliott, signing him on an initial season-long loan with an obligation to buy.
Liverpool star Mohamed Salah has now reacted to Elliott switching Merseyside for the Midlands, saying he will achieve ‘big things’ with Villa.
Elliott was unable to establish himself as a regular at Liverpool, and the arrival of Swedish striker Alexander Isak on deadline day pushed him further down the pecking order.
The youngster was named Player of the Tournament at the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in June after scoring five goals to help England win the competition.
The winger left Liverpool after weighing in with 15 goals and 20 assists in 149 games, and he brings much-needed quality and depth to the Villa attack.
Elliott dreams of playing for England at the 2026 World Cup, and his Liverpool exit could be a blessing in disguise.
He has a chance to prove himself consistently at Villa and catch the attention of Three Lions manager Thomas Tuchel over the next nine months.
Elliott has watched his former England under-21 international teammate Morgan Rogers become a member of the senior national team after establishing himself as a key player for Villa.
They could both be on the plane to North America next summer if they do enough to impress.
The onus is on Elliott to show what he can do when given regular opportunities.
