CD Castellón drew 1-1 at Albacete on Saturday at the Carlos Belmonte, extending their winless run to six. The travelling support stood out, their backing louder than the home crowd.
According to El Periódico Mediterráneo, more than 1,500 Castellón supporters made the trip, the Marea Albinegra’s biggest away following of the campaign, surpassing Andorra. Three Fedpecas coaches and many cars ferried them to Albacete.
The team arrived 90 minutes before kick-off as required by LaLiga, greeted by hundreds of Castellón fans who had gathered for hours around the ground, with local bars doing brisk trade. Inside the stadium complex the team bus had a minor scrape, no injuries and no further issues.
Club hierarchy were present, led by president Haralabos Voulgaris alongside general director Alberto González and technical secretary Ramón Soria. Voulgaris later posted a video on social media capturing chants and scarf-waving from the away end.
Head coach Pablo Hernández had family support in the stands, including his father Alfonso, his mother and other relatives.
Absences forced a youthful bench, with four players from Castellón B of Segunda Federación, full-back Michal Willmann, defender Ismael Fadel and forwards Carlos Segura and Isi. Álex Calatrava missed his first match of the season through suspension after collecting a fifth yellow against Cultural Leonesa.
Agustín Sienra and Douglas Aurélio were out injured, while Cipenga and Mabil were on international duty with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Australia respectively. Sienra still attended in street clothes to back his team-mates.
