Morgan Rogers is due to have a medical at Chelsea on Monday before completing a £117m British record move from Aston Villa.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, he returned to the UK on Sunday with the England squad after the World Cup, and will finalise the transfer after a weekend agreement between the clubs.

Villa wanted to keep him, but Chelsea's fully guaranteed offer was accepted with approval from co-owner Nassef Sawiris. Arsenal had been viewed as his most likely destination.

Middlesbrough hold 20 per cent of the profit, expected to be about £20m, on a player sold to Villa for an initial £8m in January 2024. The fee also eases immediate UEFA financial pressure.

Villa have already signed Switzerland international Johan Manzambi for a club-record £52m as his replacement, while Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes is on the brink of a £38m switch.

Further business is planned, with a winger the priority, and exits likely. Premier League newcomers Hull City are considering Leon Bailey, while Lucas Digne is expected to rejoin PSG this week.

An Albion academy graduate who joined Manchester City for £4m in 2021, Rogers ended with 125 Villa appearances, scoring his 31st goal in May's Europa League final win over Freiburg.

He becomes the second Villa player sold for a British record, and the £117m sum exceeds the £116m Manchester City paid Nottingham Forest for Elliot Anderson earlier this month.
