Achraf Hakimi is living through weeks of uncertainty, but also of resilience. After suffering a severe injury to his left ankle following a brutal tackle by Luis Díaz during the Bayern–PSG Champions League clash, the Moroccan full-back was forced to end his 2025 club season early. The diagnosis is harsh: serious sprain, with an expected absence of six to eight weeks, according to RMC Sport. At first glance, his participation in the 2025 AFCON, hosted… in Morocco, seemed highly unlikely. However, Hakimi refuses to throw in the towel. The defender has even chosen not to undergo surgery to maximize his chances of joining the Atlas Lions in December.

This Saturday, the player sent a strong message by posting several photos on Instagram. Seen with a brace on his ankle, he is fully engaged in intense rehabilitation. It’s his way of showing that he will do everything to be match-fit, despite the extremely tight schedule.

Regragui believes wholeheartedly

Asked about the situation, Walid Regragui made no attempt to hide his optimism.

"We will provide the best medical protocol so that Achraf is back for AFCON and at 100%," assured the national coach,

before offering a strong statement:

"Achraf Hakimi is always the first name I put on the list. I have always believed he’s a player who can come back to full fitness faster than anyone else. Achraf will do everything to be at AFCON. We’ll support him all the way."

Just over a month from kick-off, Morocco is holding its breath. Between medical caution and the player’s fierce determination, the race against time has only just begun.

If Hakimi manages to return, even at 80%, he could well become one of the symbols of this AFCON played on home soil.
