This summer is set to be a period of radical change at Real Madrid, especially in regards to the squad. Two players from the last season’s squad, Dani Carvajal and David Alaba, have already left the club, while the Merengues have already completed the signings of Ibrahima Konate and Denzel Dumfries. Meanwhile, reports indicate they are also very close to landing Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella.
Similarly, they have already said their goodbyes to their former coach Alvaro Arbeloa and have welcomed another former coach, Jose Mourinho, back on the bench. The new manager is set to arrive with his own set of assistants, but reportedly also wants another new assistant, preferably a former Real Madrid player, in his staff.
For this role, the former Portuguese defender Pepe had recently been linked closely with the club. However, there are some other names being considered for this role as well.
In this regard, a recent report from Diario AS claims that Mourinho wants the former German midfielder Sami Khedira for this role, and has already been in talks with him for some days now.
Although he has no coaching experience so far, the German still fits well with the requirements of this role, as he was present at the club at one of its more successful periods, and despite not being the flashiest of players, still played an important role in his team’s successes during his time at Real Madrid.
Currently, he is a leading television analyst in Germany, and recently covered the Merengue club during their clash with Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League. Jose Mourinho is yet to decide who would be his assistant as he prepares his staff for his second stint at Real Madrid, but there is no doubt that Sami Khedira can be a good option for this role.
