“My thinking is…” – Former Chelsea player puts impressive Blue into his England team

We really enjoy Scott Minto as a pundit, and we wished we got to see him more.

He’s always spot on when talking about Chelsea and Chelsea players, and always says things which make it clear that he watches our games closely.

While everyone else is talking about Cole Palmer and England this week, Minto took a different approach. He was more focused on the other Chelsea player involved in the senior squad – Levi Colwill.

While Palmer has made the big splash with another superb run of goals and assists for the Blues, Colwill has quietly re-established himself as first choice centre back, and will look to get into the England team again after featuring in the September international break at left back.

Speaking on TalkSport, Minto made it very clear that he was backing Colwill to keep his place in that position for these upcoming games against Greece and Finland over this break.

He made the great point that as a centre back, Colwill can move across when England are in possession to become a third centre back, allowing Trent Alexander-Arnold full license to get forward down the left.

“My thinking is I prefer square pegs in square holes. Levi Colwill is not actually a left-back but at least he’s left footed, there’s not many of those nowadays,” Minto explained.

“So as Trent moves up, Levi can shuffle across so there’s three centre-halves to protect Jordan Pickford… I’m going for Levi left-back and Trent right-back.”

Chelsea pair set for more England minutes

We’re just happy for Levi to be getting the recognition for his form, we’re not too bothered which position he plays in for England. We expect both him and Palmer to start tonight, although hopefully they don’t both play 90 minutes in both games. We’ve done well to keep them fresh by rotating them at club level – we’d like to see that continue in international games too.
