France’s 3-1 win over Senegal in their World Cup opener put M6 clear at the top of Tuesday’s prime time ratings. L’Équipe reports the broadcast averaged 13.99 million viewers and a 61.4% share, the most watched programme of the year so far.
It comfortably led the slot ahead of France 3’s repeat of La Fulgurée, which drew 1.98 million and 8.5%. beIN Sports also carried the match, and the entire World Cup, but had yet to disclose figures.
The night also brought a landmark for Kylian Mbappé. His brace took him to 58 goals, making him the all-time leading scorer for France.
Recent friendlies on TF1 were well down on those numbers. France 3-1 Northern Ireland on Monday 8 June averaged 5.05 million and a 28.8% share, while France 1-2 Ivory Coast the previous Thursday drew 5.20 million and 31.1%.
Tuesday’s audience also surpassed France’s opener at the previous World Cup. On 22 November 2022, France 4-1 Australia averaged 12.53 million and a 48.1% share on TF1.
In 2018 against Australia, it drew 12.59 million and 69% at noon, also on TF1. In 2014, France 3-0 Honduras delivered 15.8 million and 57% in prime time, and in 2010 France 0-0 Uruguay attracted 15 million and 57% on a Friday night.
