Chelsea are changing their transfer strategy ahead of the summer window as Liam Rosenior looks to take the team to the next level.
The Blues have focused heavily on signing young talents that can either turn into star contributors, such as Cole Palmer, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo, or be sold at a profit for the purposes of Financial Fair Play.
The policy was this week criticised by Marc Cucurella, who complained that the squad lacked big game experience against Paris Saint-Germain. They exited the UEFA Champions League last month following a chastening 8-2 defeat on aggregate to the French side.
Cucurella’s criticisms reflect the feelings of a large portion of the fanbase, who want to see Chelsea sign more top-level footballers so they can challenge for the Premier League and Champions League again. It now seems as if the club have finally taken note.
Sky Sports News report Chelsea will be “busy” in the summer transfer window and it is “expected” they will sign players with “proven Premier League experience”.
The report claims that a centre-back and a midfielder will be signed, while a new goalkeeper “cannot be ruled out”.
Meanwhile, manager Liam Rosenior wants to focus on signing players who emotionally mature after engaging in talks with the club’s owners and sporting directors.
“Bringing players with emotional stability, bringing good characters in, who in difficult moments can understand what it takes to win in those difficult moments,” he said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup clash with Port Vale.
“We’ve had great conversations with the ownership and support directors about what we do in the summer. And we’ve also had conversations with certain players in the group as well, who are really, really happy with the direction that we’re going to go in.”
