Sporting director Christoph Freund is convinced of the 21-year-old’s qualities.

“We have high hopes and great confidence in him. I’m convinced that he’s ready for this and will really step into the role. Tom is ready to take the next step at FC Bayern,” emphasized the Austrian.

Following Leon Goretzka’s departure, competition in central midfield has also become more manageable. Alongside Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic, Bischof will be the main contender for a starting spot going forward. Bara Sapoko Ndiaye is set to join the rotation as another promising talent.

The fact that Bischof has good reason to hope for plenty of playing time is also due to his head start in preseason training. While numerous national team players were competing in the World Cup and started training late, the 21-year-old was able to complete the entire preseason and prove himself early on for greater responsibilities.

Bischof has also recently demonstrated his self-confidence. “In the midfield, Pavlo, Jo, and I push each other. Everyone wants to play, which makes us all better and helps the whole team. I definitely believe I can handle this role,” the midfielder explained.

The former Hoffenheim player signaled his new status even with his choice of jersey number.
