Search for the Next Lennart Karl: Bayern Is Fully Committed to the Campus | OneFootball

At FC Bayern, young players are once again expected to make the leap to the first team this summer. Sporting Director Max Eberl and Konrad Laimer made it clear during the club’s Asian tour that the academy talents have every opportunity to make a lasting impression on Vincent Kompany.

While several regulars are absent due to vacation or injuries, numerous young players are using the Audi Summer Tour to South Korea and Hong Kong to make a name for themselves. For Vincent Kompany, the exhibition games and training sessions are far more than just mandatory events—they also serve to discover new options for the professional squad.

Sporting Director Max Eberl made it clear that every player is given the same opportunities—regardless of age or experience. “Every player always has the chance during preseason to make an impression on the coach,” he said in Jeju, South Korea.

Eberl points to Karl as a role model

As a current example, Eberl cited Lennart Karl, who made the leap from the youth team last season. “That’s how Lenny got started last year—he earned his place through training, then through the friendlies, and then through the Bundesliga matches. And every player at FC Bayern has that chance.”

Together with Christoph Freund and Vincent Kompany, they regularly discuss the impression the young players are making. “Then it doesn’t matter whether you’re old or young—it leaves an impression on the coach,” Eberl explained.

Several Campus players—Felipe Chavez, Maycon Cardozo, Guido Della Rovere, Filip Pavic, Bastian Assomo, and Tim Binder—have traveled to Asia with the team. They all hope to make a lasting impression, much like Karl did, and earn further playing time.

Konrad Laimer also sees great potential in the young players. The Austrian recalled how he himself first traveled with the pros when he was 17 or 18: “It feels like I was that young just yesterday, and now I’m already a bit older and have a few years under my belt.”



Such experiences are particularly valuable at FC Bayern. “I’d recommend this to everyone: Enjoy it, give it your all, make the most of every single second, and soak up everything there is to experience here and everything there is to show,” said Laimer.

At the same time, the Austrian also sees the experienced pros as having a responsibility: “Of course, we also try to bring the guys along with us—maybe show them a thing or two, pass on some knowledge in training, lead the way, and give it our all.”

The message from the club’s leadership is clear: Those who impress during preseason can earn a permanent spot in the FC Bayern lineup. From Munich’s perspective, Lennart Karl is currently the best example of this—and Kompany and Eberl are now hoping to see exactly this kind of development in the next group of Campus talents.
