Newcastle and Sunderland injury latest before Tyne-Wear derby | OneFootball

Sunderland visit Newcastle United at St James' Park on Sunday, with both Régis Le Bris and Eddie Howe managing injury concerns. According to Sunderland Echo, fuller updates are expected at Friday's pre-match press conferences.

While Sunderland’s list is longer, the hosts also have key absences and suffered a setback during their Champions League defeat to Barcelona on Wednesday night.

Bruno Guimaraes has been out since February with a hamstring issue and will miss the derby. He is expected to return after the international break.

Lewis Miley has not featured since late January after a dead leg led to muscle damage. He is close to a return but, like Bruno, is expected to miss this one and come back after the international break.

Sandro Tonali is a major doubt after being forced off early in the second half against Barcelona with a hip or groin problem. His involvement is uncertain.

Reinildo is available. The left back has built fitness over the last fortnight and, having resumed full training over the weekend, is in line to feature. He impressed in the reverse fixture and his return would be a major boost to Sunderland’s hopes.
