Newcastle United have been dealt a big injury blow ahead of this weekend’s clash with Chelsea after Eddie Howe revealed Tino Livramento is “not looking good”
The Magpies advanced to the semi-finals of the League Cup, where they will face Manchester City over two legs, following a 2-1 win over Fulham at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night.
Lewis Miley scored from a corner in stoppage time to seal victory for the hosts after Sasa Lukic cancelled out Yoane Wissa’s early opener.
Some of the gloss was taken off the win, however, when it was revealed afterwards that Livramento had suffered a knee injury. The England international was replaced by Irish full-back Alex Murphy in the 76th minute after receiving treatment on the pitch.
“Tino’s injury is the big negative,” Howe said during his post-match press conference. .
“We don’t know (how serious it is), but it’s not looking good. It looks like a knee problem.
“He’s such an honest lad, so it sends worrying signs that he said he had to come off.”
Newcastle have been rocked by injuries to their backline lately. Dan Burn suffered a broken rib during the Tyne-Wear Derby defeat to Sunderland in the Premier League last weekend, joining Kieran Trippier, Lewis Hall, Sven Botman, Emil Krafth, and Jamaal Lascelles on the treatment table. Nick Pope and Will Osula are also sidelined by injuries at the moment.
The north east outfit host Chelsea in the Premier League this Saturday, with kickoff set for 12.30pm.
