In a recent post on X, renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano stated that Newcastle United have made a move for Nottingham Forest playmaker Anthony Elanga. It has been stated that the Magpies have launched a £55m bid to land the English talent this summer.

Elanga’s Impressive Form In The Premier League

Elanga enjoyed a decent run of form at the Midlands club as he put in a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The 23-year-old found the back of the net six times and earned 12 assists in 43 matches for Nottingham last season across all competitions.

The Swedish talent did well to average 1.58 shots per 90 minutes in the Premier League and kept 54.5% of his attempts on target. However, he needs to improve his ball distribution after completing just 65.3% of his attempted passes in top-flight football (stats via fbref.com).

His current contract at Nottingham will run out in the summer of 2028 which could make it tough for the Magpies to sign him on the cheap this off-season.

Is Elanga A Good Option For Newcastle United?

Elanga is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet and can make a few driving runs with the ball out in the wide areas. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and can strike the ball with venom from long range.

The English talent can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top. However, Elanga needs to improve his link-up play in the opposition half. He is primarily a right-sided wide player but can also operate as a left-sided wide player or play as a centre-forward if required.

We can expect Elanga to add more firepower to Newcastle boss Eddie Howe’s attack. He is more than capable of earning a regular first-team spot at the Tyneside club in the coming seasons.

At 23, Elanga has his best years ahead of them which makes him an excellent option for the Magpies to consider in this summer transfer window. He might even help the Tyneside club compete for a top-four spot in the Premier League next season. Therefore, Howe would be wise to go all out to bring him on board this off-season.
