After a season-long stint in the Bundesliga, 24-year-old striker Nicolas Jackson is packing his bags but he might not be staying at Stamford Bridge for long. Instead, Newcastle United are reportedly waiting with open arms to bring him back to the Premier League.

The attacker was signed by Bayern Munich as a back up option to first choice striker Harry Kane but the German champions are set to pass up the option to sign him on a permanent basis this summer.

They are ready to send him back to Chelsea and with that in mind, Newcastle United are targeting a move for him, according to talkSPORT.

Newcastle United target move for Chelsea attacker

Racking up a highly respectable 10 goals and four assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, the Senegalese forward has proven he can still deliver the goods.

Despite his solid form, Bayern’s sporting director Max Eberl recently went on the record to confirm they won’t be triggering the permanent buy option.

Honestly, you can’t blame them, the massive €65 million (£56.2m) price tag attached to that clause is steep.

Even Bayern fans have admitted that while Jackson has been a reliable backup, the valuation is simply too high for a rotation player.

Enter Eddie Howe and Newcastle United. The Magpies are crying out for a dynamic, reliable hitman. Last summer, they heavily invested in Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa, but the duo have completely misfired.

Together, they’ve managed a measly combined total of just eight Premier League goals all season.

The situation has gotten so dire that Howe has been forced to lean heavily on 20-year-old Will Osula to lead the line in recent weeks.

Magpies need a ready made option to lead the attack

Newcastle desperately needs an established forward who can handle the physical demands and transitional style of English football, and Jackson perfectly fits the profile.

The most fascinating part of this potential deal is the absolute chaos currently unfolding at Jackson’s parent club. Chelsea is in the middle of a major sporting crisis.

They’ve been suffering through a shocking five-game goal drought that recently led to the sacking of manager Liam Rosenior, who only just replaced Enzo Maresca.

You’d think the Blues would be begging for Jackson to return, especially since big-money summer signing Liam Delap has struggled immensely, netting just one league goal all year.

However, Chelsea still have Jackson tied down for another seven years. Given their massive squad size, recent managerial upheaval, and the need to balance the books, it’s highly likely Chelsea will drop their initial asking price just to get his wages off the payroll
