Leeds United, safe in 14th after Sunday’s 3-0 loss at West Ham, could target relegated rivals for summer signings, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.

West Ham’s victory was futile, their drop confirmed by Tottenham’s win over Everton. Mateus Fernandes, 21, shone against Leeds and across the season, posting three goals and four assists as a creative, hard-working midfielder.

He could be beyond reach, given a £40m outlay last summer and interest from Champions League clubs. Jarrod Bowen, 29, registered nine goals and 11 assists and fits the need for a left-footed right winger.

Leeds could also do with a left-footed centre-back, making Konstantinos Mavropanos appealing. The Greece international scored three, can play in a back four or three, and has top-level and international experience, though wealthier clubs are likely to circle.

With Pascal Struijk entering his final year, another left-footer is needed even if he stays. Burnley’s Maxime Esteve, 23, is admired and has suitors including Everton and Bournemouth.

Midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu, 22, scored three, including against Leeds in October, and thrives box to box, a role currently filled by Anton Stach or Sean Longstaff. Any addition there would ideally be a high-floor deputy to Ethan Ampadu.

Florentino Luis, 26, arrived on loan and an option near £20m suggests Benfica would sell. More defensive minded, he could come into focus if Ilia Gruev departs.

Wolves offer another left-sided centre-back in Ladislav Krejci, initially on loan from Girona with a permanent move around £26m. The 27-year-old is composed on the ball, plays left of a three or four and can step into midfield, but is less dominant in his own box.

Joao Gomes has been a near ever-present holding option, although links to Atletico Madrid and Manchester United make that a stretch. At left wing-back, Leeds have been linked with Hugo Bueno, 23, who could develop alongside Gabriel Gudmundsson.
