Nordi Mukiele was forced off in the first half of Sunderland’s 3-1 home defeat to Fulham, then posted a defiant update promising to return stronger.
According to Sunderland Echo, head coach Régis Le Bris is facing up to five new injury worries. Dennis Cirkin was ruled out before kick-off with a minor issue, while Reinildo is sidelined with a knee problem for around a month.
Mukiele initially tried to run off the problem before being withdrawn. Jocelin Ta Bi also departed before the interval. Brian Brobbey went down shortly before he was substituted and Romaine Mundle left the pitch with the physio at full-time.
After the match, Mukiele used Instagram to hint his lay-off could be extended, adding that, however long it takes, he will come back stronger.
Le Bris said it was too early to be definitive on the severity, naming Nordi, Jocelin, Brian and possibly Romaine among the concerns. He noted that Dennis missed out and called it a tough period the team must accept and move forward from.
Reflecting on the defeat, Le Bris felt key moments and set pieces decided the contest. He admitted the first half lacked control and quality on the ball and that the injuries did not help. He thought the early second-half reaction was encouraging, but only a reaction.
