Over the summer, speculation emerged surrounding the relationship between Barcelona teammates Fermin Lopez and Gavi – and the former has now attempted to set the record straight.
Last month, Fermin published an Instagram story that fans believed was related to a conflict between his Gavi’s girlfriends. And a couple of weeks later, it was further speculation that the 22-year-old had distanced himself from some of his close friends at Barcelona – and Gavi would fall into this category, given that they came through the academy together.
However, Fermin has now told MD that any allegations surrounding a rift between himself and Gavi are unfounded, as he states that they are still on very good terms.
“Gavi has been my friend since I was 12 years old. I’ve known him since my time at Betis, but since I joined La Masia he’s been my friend, like my brother. We have shared a lot. People always speculate, this is not going to change, but he is still my friend. We have a good relationship, as always and I have nothing more to say about it.”

During the interview, Fermin also broke his silence on deciding to remain as a Barcelona player, amid strong interest from Chelsea. According to reports, he had mulled over the move, and as well as Hansi Flick, the young midfielder revealed (via MD) that several teammates also spoke to him about the decision that was ahead of him.
“I’ve had some conversations with some. I can tell you… Ter Stegen, for example. With him, with Ronald, with Pedri… With quite a few players, really. Raphinha too. But the whole team has been very supportive of me this week and everyone wanted me to stay too. The affection of the dressing room is appreciated.”
