Nottingham Forest are closing in on appointing Vitor Pereira as their fourth head coach of the season after Sean Dyche’s exit.

According to Nottingham Post, Dyche was dismissed after the 0-0 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday, with confirmation arriving early on Thursday to end his 114-day tenure.

Dyche had replaced Ange Postecoglou, who succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo three games into the campaign. Owner Evangelos Marinakis has opted for change again as Forest fight to stay in the Premier League.

Pereira is expected to take charge. He kept Wolves up last season, then was sacked by the West Midlands club in November and has been out of work since. He previously worked with Marinakis at Olympiacos in 2015, winning a league and cup double.

He quickly emerged as the leading candidate and talks were held on Thursday. Attention now turns to the City Ground today for confirmation of his arrival.

Forest have a weekend off before travelling to Türkiye next week for the Europa League play-off first leg against Fenerbahce. It will be quite the occasion for the new man’s first game in charge.

The Reds are three points above the bottom three with 12 games to play. With big-money recruits yet to deliver, the club also harbour European ambitions alongside their survival battle.

For Marinakis, the gamble is seen as more promising than persevering with the status quo, and he believes the odds of staying up are higher under Pereira than under Dyche.
