Nottingham Forest are exploring a deadline day move for Celtic midfielder Arne Engels, according to Sky Sports Germany.
The outlet adds the 22-year-old could leave only under the right conditions. Forest have been assessing midfield options, with Brighton & Hove Albion’s Yasin Ayari and Inter Milan’s Davide Frattesi among those monitored.
Frattesi’s situation appears linked to whether Inter can persuade Liverpool to let Curtis Jones go, something Arne Slot has played down.
Fabrizio Romano claims a move for Frattesi is on stand-by, which could see Forest turn to Engels. He joined Celtic from FC Augsburg in 2024 and has two-and-a-half years remaining on his contract.
The Belgian has since made his senior international debut and 88 appearances for Celtic, scoring 15 and providing 20 assists.
This season he has started 15 of 23 league games, missing only one, and six of their eight Europa League fixtures.
As things stand, Sean Dyche has ample midfield options, with Elliot Anderson, Ibrahim Sangaré, Morgan Gibbs-White, Nicolas Dominguez, James McAtee and Ryan Yates available.
Prising Engels from Celtic could be difficult, with the 22-year-old performing well under Martin O’Neill.
