Nottingham Forest have sacked Sean Dyche after a goalless draw with Wolves, their third managerial casualty of the season.
Owner Evangelos Marinakis acted with Forest three points above the relegation zone. It is understood he held crisis talks with senior players before Dyche was dismissed hours later. In a statement, the club confirmed Dyche’s dismissal, thanked him and his staff, and said there would be no further comment.
Players are believed to have raised concerns over Dyche’s methods amid fears of a disconnect with staff. The board were also frustrated by post-match remarks seen as shifting blame onto the squad.
Marinakis’s first-choice target is Marco Silva, though any move is thought unlikely until the summer, with his contract up at the end of June. Forest plan a short-term appointment, with Vitor Pereira floated by intermediaries.
Dyche, appointed in October, now joins Nuno Espírito Santo and Ange Postecoglou as the club’s third sacking of the season. Forest are the first club to make three changes in one campaign since Blackburn Rovers in 2012-13.
A run of defeats to Everton, Braga, Wrexham and Leeds intensified pressure.
After a £200m spend last summer, Marinakis cannot contemplate relegation, and recruitment is under scrutiny. Edu Gaspar, the club’s global head of football, is under pressure over signings including Omari Hutchinson, Dan Ndoye and Douglas Luiz. He and sporting director George Syrianos backed Dyche’s appointment. Dyche leaves after 25 games.
Forest face Fenerbahçe next Thursday night in the first leg of their Europa League play-off.
