Novorizontino chief on Jorjão upgrades after 2025 Corinthians clash

On the afternoon of last Monday (23), at the headquarters of the São Paulo Football Federation (FPF), the technical council for the semifinals of the 2026 São Paulo Championship took place. In the semifinals, Corinthians will face Novorizontino at the Jorge Ismael de Biasi Stadium, Jorjão, next Saturday (28), at 8:30 PM (Brasília time). The match will take place at the opponent's home, which had a better accumulated campaign so far – 19 against 15 points.

At the entity's headquarters, Novorizontino's football executive, Edgard Montemor, spoke to the press and commented on the structure of the team’s stadium in the interior of São Paulo, with a capacity for 16,000 people. The executive also detailed the structural improvements at the venue, especially after Corinthians visited Jorjão in the third phase of the Copa do Brasil, in April of last year, when the Corinthians team won 1-0 with a goal from forward Héctor Hernández.

“First of all, obviously, we are in a city of thirty-eight thousand inhabitants. A stadium for the size of the city, for the size, fits eleven, twelve thousand people, but we have been improving the structures more and more. It's nice that you mentioned the Copa do Brasil game against Corinthians, because hosting Corinthians in our stadium made us improve the visiting team's locker room structure. In fact, it was improved before we improved our own locker room structures. Our locker room was only completed this year.”

“So, when we hosted Corinthians in the Copa do Brasil, we said: ‘wow, we can't host one of the biggest clubs in the world, one of the biggest clubs in Brazil just anywhere. So, today, we have two high-standard locker rooms, which are on par with any arena. And we hope to welcome all Corinthians fans, Grêmio Novo Horizontino fans, in the best way possible. May we have a great semifinal of the São Paulo Championship,” he began.

Later, he spoke about the ticket sales for the match. According to the executive, the sales should follow the same pattern as the interior São Paulo team's match against Santos in the state quarterfinals, where 60% of the tickets were allocated to the team from Baixada Santista.

“I believe it is something similar to what happened in the game against Santos, obviously it is a semifinal, right? You are slightly raising the visibility level of the game, the fact of facing Corinthians, obviously, also makes this game even bigger. But it is not something that will be completely different from what has been practiced not only in Novo Horizonte but also in the game against Santos and in other places,” he concluded.
