The season does not get any easier as New York City FC plays their final few matches over the next month. There are four games left, and every fixture is difficult. One of those difficult games is a midweek matchup against Inter Miami CF. Despite stars like Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba, the Pigeons have been able to compete with the Herons, giving some hope with the game.
However, the last time NYCFC won a regular-season game against Miami was before Messi and his friends joined the club, so in the spring of 2023. As such, the Queens’ team will be seeking their first win since then, and in front of a home crowd, too. And as it is for most Major League Soccer teams when they play Miami, it is expected to be the largest crowd of the year, with many casual and Messi fans filling up many of the seats.
Both teams will be trying to climb the table, so it is expected that it will feel like a playoff game. Ideally, the crazy ending from the season opener will not repeat in the Big Apple, for the Boys in Blue almost won that match. Additionally, things appear to be clicking for them, and the team is much different compared to the first meeting of this season.
So, with plenty on the line, here is a preview of NYCFC’s game against Inter Miami.
NYCFC and Miami will play on Wednesday, September 24.
The fixture will begin at 7:30 PM ET.
The match will occur at Citi Field in Flushing, Queens, NY.
Fans can watch the game on the MLS Season Pass via Apple TV.
Entering the match, it will be cloudy, but there is a 48% chance of rain. More than likely, there should be showers at some point. It will also be 72 degrees and the humidity level will be at about 83%.
Nico Cavallo (leg), Malachi Jones (leg), and Keaton Parks (leg) are still unavailable for the Boys in Blue.
NYCFC fans should watch Alonso Martínez. The Costa Rican scored a brace over the weekend against Charlotte FC to lead his team to the win. He has also scored 17 goals in MLS. With four games to play, including this one, he might be inspired to try and reach 20 goals. The striker can do it, but it will not be easy. His hunger will likely be on display against the Herons, making him an extreme threat.
Fans should also pay attention to Messi, because he is Messi. The player has done some impressive things for the Florida team. He has 22 goals and ten assists and is always someone who is reliable.
Based on recent history, the prediction is that NYCFC and Miami will share the points. The game will end in another 2-2 draw, similar to the first result. The Pigeons will play well, where fans can leave Citi Field feeling good about the result.
