Two high-profile members of the first-team ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona on Monday secured their respective places at next summer’s World Cup.

The Blaugrana stars in question? Frenkie de Jong, and Marc-André ter Stegen.

In the case of the former, De Jong featured from the off once again for The Netherlands, in a World Cup qualifier against Lithuania.

And en route to an eventual 4-0 rout, the midfielder played a starring role, notching an assist as the Oranje officially booked their flight to next summer’s international showpiece.

Barca teammate Ter Stegen, on the other hand, was again absent as Germany faced off with Slovakia. The 33-year-old is closing on a return to the pitch following a long-term injury, but has not yet been cleared for competitive action.

Nevertheless, his compatriots made short work of Slovakia, by six goals to nil.

Julian Nagelsmann’s troops have therefore also clinched a spot at the World Cup, with Ter Stegen expected to be on the plane to North America.
