Daniel Farke fielded an unchanged Leeds United lineup from last weekend’s 2-2 draw against Bournemouth while clashing heads with Tottenham Hotspur this afternoon. It was an end-to-end encounter at Elland Road, but the hosts ended up losing 2-1, with Mathys Tel and Mohammed Kudus seeing their deflected efforts beat past Karl Darlow. Noah Okafor equalised at the backend of the first half, but Kudus’ strike around the hour mark helped the Lilywhites maintain their exquisite record on the road under Thomas Frank.

Below are the Leeds United players rated in their 2-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur.

Karl Darlow: 6

Was unlucky to concede, as both of Spurs’ goals were deflected off Pascal Struijk. Could have done better with his distribution, particularly while playing it long from goal-kicks.

Jayden Bogle: 7

His cross from the right led to Okafor’s equaliser. Was a threat with his marauding runs, cut-insides and link-up play. Made way for James Justin minutes before the final whistle.

Joe Rodon: 7

Came close to finding the net against his former employers. But his header was cannoned back off the upright early into the contest. Dominated the aerial duels and was also composed with his passing game.

Pascal Struijk: 5

An afternoon to forget for the Dutchman, as the ball deflected off him on both occasions. Struggled defensively, other than a few no-nonsense clearances.

Gabriel Gundmundsson: 5

Was at fault during Kudus’ goal, as he failed to deal with Pedro Porro’s floated pass, thus allowing the Ghanaian to cut inside and find the target. Made way for Lukas Nmecha late in the contest.

Ethan Ampadu: 7

Was combative in the centre of the pitch against the prowess and physicality of Palinha and Rodrigo Bentancur. Played a few passes into the final third but lacked the creative spark in and around the attacking third.

Sean Longstaff: 7

Was strong with his tackles and challenges in midfield. Also carried the ball forward from the deep to operate in the advanced areas of the pitch. Unlike the Bournemouth game, his efforts from a distance could not test Guglielmo Vicario in the Spurs’ goal.

Anton Stach: 6.5

Was not at his best, as the ball progression of the German midfield ace was not frequent enough. Farke took him off for Ao Tanaka midway through the second half.

Brendan Aaronson: 6.5

Had an impressive first half with his swift runs, pace and footwork down the right-hand flank. His first-time strike was parried by Vicario, but Okafor made no mistake to find the target from the rebound. Was replaced by Jack Harrison around the 67th-minute mark.

Noah Okafor: 7.5

Netted from a close range, as the save from Vicario fell favourably into the Swiss winger’s path. Tried to be creative with his dribbles and link-up play before making way for Joel Piroe late in the game.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin: 6.5

Was not able to cause enough menace in the Spurs box with his physical and aerial presence. Should have done better on one occasion in the first half, when he skied an effort, failing to capitalise on Bentancur’s mistake. Contributed to Okafor’s goal, as he knocked down Bogle’s cross before Aaronson’s strike.

Leeds United Subs vs Tottenham Hotspur

Ao Tanaka: 6

Switched the play down the wide with his passing, crossing and distribution traits.

Jack Harrison: 5.5

Failed to make any significant impact since replacing Aaronson.

Joel Piroe: 5.5

Was close to snatch a point in the stoppage time, but his strike was denied expertly by Vicario.

Lukas Nmecha: 5

Did not have enough touches since coming on as a late substitute.
