Galatasaray crashed out of the Champions League with a 4-0 defeat at Anfield, as head coach Okan Buruk railed against the officiating and branded the referee the "worst in the world".

The visitors travelled with hope after a narrow first-leg win, but Liverpool dismantled them. "While we were expecting the world's best referee, the world's worst referee managed the match. Liverpool clearly deserved to win," he said, as quoted by Hurriyet.

Buruk complained that Victor Osimhen was not protected and highlighted Ibrahima Konate’s fouls on the striker. He argued the referee did not meet the standard required for a high-stakes European knockout tie.

He also accepted his side fell short, saying nothing went right, their choices were poor and they allowed too many chances. Goalkeeper Ugurcan Cakir impressed, yet the margin remained heavy.

Injuries added to the frustration. "Noa Lang has a serious injury to his finger. He will go to the hospital here. Victor Osimhen also has pain," Buruk confirmed.

He apologised to the travelling support and pointed to limited experience at this level, noting many are new to the Champions League and few have played in the round of 16.

Attention now turns to the Super Lig, where leaders Galatasaray have four wins and one loss in their last five league matches and hold a four-point advantage over Fenerbahce.
