Oliver Glasner is starting to emerge as the leading candidate for the Manchester United job if it becomes available.
Ruben Amorim remains at the helm at Old Trafford despite overseeing a disastrous start to the new season. All the positivity of United’s pre-season has disappeared, as the Red Devils find themselves 14th in the Premier League table after six games.
United handed the ex-Sporting CP man a new-look attack worth nearly £200m in the summer, but his 3-4-3 formation is yet to replicate the result it produced in Lisbon. Regardless, Amorim has defended his ideas tooth and nail.
The 40-year-old might not be completely wrong, especially as Crystal Palace are flying under Glasner, who also employs a three-man defence, albeit with different tactics, in and out of possession.
The Eagles won their first major trophy under the Austrian and are currently on a club-record 19-game unbeaten run, having handed convincing defeats to the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.
However, his future in south London looks increasingly uncertain amid interest from United.
Recently, The Peoples Person relayed a report claiming Glasner was offered a new contract earlier this summer, but the 51-year-old has yet to put pen to paper on a renewal.
It is suggested that he and the club are not aligned in terms of their ambitions.
According to We Are Palace, the FA Cup winners are aware of the fact United bosses admire their manager.
The ex-Eintracht Frankfurt boss is in the final year of his deal at Palace, meaning United can hire him for free in the summer if the situation remains unchanged at Selhurst Park.
However, Palace could make up to £4m if United decide to bring him this month.
We Are Palace’s Adam Williams states: “If United wanted to buy Glasner out of his deal now, it’s probably going to simply be the value of the nine remaining months on the contract. That’s likely around £3m – £4m.”
