Fabrizio Romano reports that Celtic Glasgow have agreed to personal terms with SC Paderborn midfielder Mika Baur. The 22-year-old from the newly promoted Bundesliga club has also been linked with Schalke, Mainz 05, and Werder Bremen. Romano and Sky Germany nevertheless report that Baur prefers a move to the Bhoys. The finalization of the transfer should not prove a problem.
The Freiburg academy man joined Paderborn in the summer of 2024 for just €500,000. Since then, his estimated market value has risen to €5m. Much of this had to do with a strong 2025/26 season for the East Westphalians in the 2. Bundesliga. Baur scored four goals and added seven assists in 33 appearances last season.
Baur earned a late Germany U21 call up last November and has since been capped once for Germany at the highest youth level. Baur primarily operates as an attacking midfielder. He is capable of playing between midfield and attack, combining with forwards and contributing both goals and assists around the penalty area.
Assuming that Paderborn will demand fair market value from the Glaswegians, the sale will count as a new record for the SCP. Last summer, Paderborn broke their previous transfer record with the €4.5m sale of Aaron Zehnter to Wolfsburg in late June.
